About us.
Brother and sister Daniel Folsom and Amy Ward began Outdoor Thrift in spring 2020 during the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Amid the many “unforeseen circumstances” of that year, Daniel and Amy, (along with their spouses), moved in together to bunker down. Boredom and wandering minds lead to a growing idea of a thrift shop dedicated to the thing they craved most: being outside.
What started as a Quarantine passion project has transformed into a purpose-driven business. We find fulfillment in knowing that we've diverted tens of hundreds of pounds of clothes from landfills and reintroduced them into the outdoors community. Given the textile industry's significant impact on our planet's pollution, we're more committed than ever to our mission.
Our mission.
We venture to make the outdoors more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable by providing affordable quality outdoor gear & apparel for all. Our goal is to divert difficult-to-recycle textiles from the landfill by repairing, rewearing, and repurposing. We also strive to promote inclusivity throughout our educational partnerships, promotional material, and personal actions we take in the outdoors. Our vision is grounded in our belief that we can make a difference in the industry as we do our part in breaking down as many barriers to the outdoors as possible.
our unfiltered "why".
It's puzzling how the outdoor industry creates incredibly durable textiles that can last for generations, yet launches new product lines every season, encouraging overconsumption and waste. Additionally, the high retail prices, compared to manufacturing costs, restrict access to high-quality gear essential for outdoor activities, favoring a privileged few. This widening wealth gap persists even in industries that capitalize on nature, originally free for all. Shouldn't the outdoors be accessible to everyone? We think so! That's why we're taking action. Thank you for being part of our journey.
